To my silly lovely mom and dad...
I didn't expect my previous entry would embark such parental attention from you guys - I thought it was so cute and sweet that both of you guys called me individually to urge me to buy a heater to keep warm! ^_^ hehe...
I felt like being a 10 year-old little spoiled brat all over again ;) Thanks!! I know I know, my usual "spoiled brat"-self might have sounded like annoyed on the phone, but deep down in my heart, I am very very thankful and moved!!!
I MISS YOU GUYS SO MUCH!!!!
Thank you for always loving me and supporting me unconditionally!!
Love you, mom & dad!!!
p.s. Though there is one IMPORTANT point I have to make -
I think my "money-saving" personality might have left too much of an impression on you guys since I moved abroad - I have to stress again - I did NOT "abuse" Mike and not let him buy coats or heater to keep warm!! (Where did you guys get that idea from???)
And I can't believe you guys will favor a "foreigner" over your own daughter!!!! (yes, pun intended!!)
LOL.... (^_~)v

Why don't you just tell us the war didn't cost us a dime, Mr President?
Outrageous news on the Iraq war cost report that the Democrats recently published but the Republicans deemed as "incorrect" and demanded the Democrats to retract...
Doesn't it sound like those fights they put in soaps where the husband and wife are pointing fingers at each other yelling about how much they have overspent that month?
Wish it was really as simple as soaps where people watch and then forget....but... we are talking about WAR here... A war that killed millions of lives...... (sigh).......
Some outrageous figures from the report
".... The 'hidden costs' (of the war) had pushed the total to about $1.5 trillion - nearly twice the requested $804 bn...."
"... Higher oil prices, the cost of care for wounded veterans and the economic cost of pulling reservists from their jobs were taken into account in reaching the new total...."
"... The Democratic authors of the War report calculate that between 2002 and 2008 the campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan will have cost the average US family of four about $20,900...."
"... The war could cost a total of $3.5 trillion over the next decade...."
"Democratic Senator Charles Schumer, chairman of the JEC, said: "What this report makes crystal clear is that the cost to our country in lives lost and dollars spent is tragically unacceptable."
George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, you are such a Jackaxx, u know that??!?!?!

Question from a US friend
Got an email from a US friend. He asked a very interesting question.
"Just wondering, Japanese people tend to not be able to go back after spending time in America (cuz their culture is so rigid). Obviously, HKs not like that at all, but, how is it for you? It must be weird being back...."
And here is my reply...
"Do I have any problems moving back to HK? Hmm.... dun think so.... HK, in a lot of ways, is very similar to the States, very western. On the other hand, I think I might have some difficulties adjusting back to the US lifestyle when we are done living in HK. (yea, sadly, that day will come)
For one, I will definitely miss the convenience to go anywhere w/out driving, to get food, etc., the safety here (I can go out alone at 2, 3am by myself w/out worrying being mugged or captured), the cheapness of everything, clothes, food, and transportation, the niceness of people here in general, always smiling, willing to give a helping hand...
Though we like HK a lot, I don't think we'll settle here though. Main reason being that it feels "small", not diverse enough. Also, Mike is scared to death with all the "made in China" poison food shit and H5N1 (yea, he is dead serious believing that H5N1 will break out in China). I am totally useless under the unbearable 33+ degree Celsius weather here in Summer (stay in most of the time during those 2 hottest months). And, last but not least, we both want to be closer to our family. Flying 15+ hours to the other side of the planet twice a year is a bit too much (time-wise, strength-wise, and money-wise...) =(
In conclusion, we are still searching for the ideal place to settle... Candidates still on the list are: London, Vancouver, NY, and (of coz) Bay Area... "
p.s. "Mr. Sky", I know you won't mind that I "disclosed" some of our email content, right? ;)

US trip recap
After a few weeks of rough fighting with jetlag, I finally came back on a somewhat normal schedule (instead of waking up at the weirdest random time in the middle of the night) and function as a human being again (well... sorta, I still wake up VERY regularly at 7am every morning for no apparent reason regardless of how late I sleep the previous night).
Anyways, I decided it's finally time to upload all the pictures from the US visit and give a short recap of this trip ...

Our generous hosts, Brett and Katie

Kicking lazy Mike out from his monopolizing the sofa~

It's a air mattress that Brett and Katy prepared for us. We settled the air mattress in Brett's art room. (He is a comic artist.) What we did was we pumped air into the mattress thing, slept on it at night and put it up vertically against the wall during the day (like what you see in the picture), and then put it back down when it's bedtime.
"Advanced technique", huh?! ;)
LA Zoo Day Trip
Brett and Katie brought us to the infamous LA Zoo. I couldn't remember when was the last time I was actually in a zoo. Probably back in primary school in HK? I don't particularly like zoo, because looking at caged animals from outside the case feels cruel to me. But not long ago, Mike's sister, Julie, convinced me that the animals are actually getting better care when they are in a zoo. So that eased a bit of my uneasiness.

So we stopped and watched as well...

Well, my neck started hurting, but they were still holding the same positions more or less.... Excuse me, is this a setup of some sort?!?!

We were mostly just relaxing and lying around in St Louis. We were so relaxed (and lazy) that we didn't even take too many pictures ;)

We didn't go to St Fran, so I didn't get to see my parents this trip. I miss them!! Really can't wait to see them flying here next week!!! We'll go eat lotz of lotz of DIMSUM!!! yay!!!

Family's old friends
WHAT? Jackie and .... a baby?!?!?!?!Don't worry, not that Jackie is having a baby!!!
The cute little baby in his hands belongs to a family friend. Her family was the first family that we knew after we moved to the US. They had helped us a lot.
M0m and Jackie had dim sum with them in the US recently and sent me pictures of their gathering. Looking at the pictures reminded me of a lot of things that had happened since we knew each other.... wow, 10 years already!!Priscilla, an old friend from fellowship from long time ago, is the REAL mom of the baby boy.
Haven't seen her in ages, she looks a lot more mature now ;)
Is it the Power of being a mom? hehe.... ^_^
We knew their family for a long time...
I am especially glad that my family is still in touch with their family. (Mostly thanks to mom!! ^_^ )
I felt really amazed to see a younger friend from childhood had moved into a totally different stage of life!!The baby is sooooooooooo CUTE!!! (A mixed baby, her husband is a Caucasian) ^_^ Mike thinks the baby looks totally like a White baby, no traces of Asian at all. But I think he looks more Chinese than White... We'll see! =D
Though looking at my mom's happy face while holding the little baby.... Does make me wonder if she is secretly hoping to hold her grandchildren anytime soon.... ;)
Mom also sent me pictures of our front yard in the US.Wow... I don't remember ever seeing such pretty flowers in the yard before. I wonder how much effort dad has put in to keep the flowers so fully-bloomed?! ;)
Anyways, dad, you have done an amazing job!!!Mike and I missed the chance to see cheery blossom in Japan this year. (The urge to leave Japan was so great that no pretty views or famous attractions could make us stay an extra month just to wait for the cherry blossom season.) We sometimes felt it's a pity to not have seen it in Japan after staying there for a whole year. But after seeing this picture, I felt a bit ironic that there is actually really pretty cheery blossom right in front of my parents' house front yard!!!

WHY??? why......?
Gunman Kills 32 at Virginia Tech In Deadliest Shooting in U.S. History
I have a brother in University, and it hurts to think that he could be killed in a normal school day like this...
What has this world become?
What gives people power to take the life of others? Including those so-called "president" of the whatever countries....
I don't care how much hate you have in mind, towards whoever, what other "serious" excuses, or whatever democracy YOU THINK you are building for anyone - the truth is .... no one has any right to take over life of any innocent people!!!
So mad...... and so sad .......
